About Kevin’s Cause

Kevin’s Cause was born from profound loss and unwavering faith. After the tragic death of my son Kevin. I felt called to transform grief into purpose by raising awareness and supporting other affected by suicide. What began as personal heartbreak, became a lifelong commitment to prevention, education, and hope.

Kevin’s Story

Kevin was naturally funny. The kind of funny that didn’t have to try. He had a smile that could light up an entire room, and when he walked in, you felt his presence immediately.

He loved being around people. He loved his family deeply. He loved his friends. And most of all he loved his two children. Ashley and Kevin Jr. Being their father meant everything to him. About a year before his death, Kevin was assaulted and suffered a traumatic brain injury that caused bleeding in his brain. Although the bleeding was stopped and he physically recovered, medical research shows that traumatic brain injuries can sometimes affect mood, behavior, and mental health in ways that are not immediately visible.

Depression, personality changes, impulsivity, and increased suicide risk have been associated with traumatic brain injury. These changes can develop gradually and may not always be recognized right away.

At the same time, suicide is rarely caused by a single factor. It is often complex, involving biological, psychological, trauma-related, situational, and sometimes neurological components. Looking back, there were changes we did not fully understand at the time. On August 26,2008, our family lost Kevin to suicide at the age of 30. I often say, if love alone could have kept Kevin alive, he would still be here today. He was loved deeply. Everything that love could do was done. But sometimes love, without knowledge and resources are not enough.

In March 2010, we founded Kevin’s Cause in his honor. What began as grief became purpose. Kevin’s Cause was created to raise awareness, educate families about warning signs, and provide resources so that no one suffers in silence. Kevin’s life continues through this work. If sharing his story helps even one person who reached out for help, then his legacy continues.

Kevin mattered.

He still matters.
